Verruca Treatments:

Swift

Swift is a new state of the art technology developed for Verruca treatment. It is delivered in a matter of seconds by using microwave energy that passes safely through skin layers. It generates heat inside the verruca which triggers the body’s own immune response to fight the verruca virus(HPV). The treatment is the most effective for elimination of warts/verruca. For the best outcome we recommend 3 treatments every 4 weeks and a follow up review 12 weeks after the last treatment.

Cryotherapy

Cryotherapy is a technique which uses a very cold gas called liquid nitrogen which is applied directly to the verruca. The podiatrist will initially remove the hard skin and then apply the liquid nitrogen multiple times. For the best outcome the podiatrist recommends between 1-4 sessions. In some cases patients may develop blood blisters which can be very painful. In this circumstance we pierce the blister to relieve pain.

Verruca Needling

Verruca needling is carried out by puncturing the verruca with a sterile needle several times. This procedure is performed under a local anaesthetic. It exposes the viral particles to the dermal layer of the skin which is enriched with regulatory cells therefore, stimulating an immune response. Only one treatment is required. After the treatment the patient may feel tenderness in the area. The patient can take paracetamol however we advise against anything anti inflammatory.

Acid Application

Salicylic acid application is a method used to break the area of hard thickened skin over the verruca. The acid will cause the skin to become slightly inflamed which will cause an immune response and help the body fight the virus. Podiatrists are licensed to apply a greater percentage of salicylic acid than over the counter treatments and therefore, more effective results are seen. This may require multiple applications for maximum of 6 sessions.
