The Movement MOT

In partnership with Biomotion London

Understand Your Movement

Movement MOT combines Footscan measurements, standing balance tests and a five times sit to stand test to build a picture of how you move.

Your personalised report brings together your measurements and Movement MOT scores, calculated using clinic defined scoring rules informed by selected published research. Your podiatrist explains the findings alongside your history, activity and goals, helping you agree practical next steps.

How Can Movement MOT Help You?

Are you worried about falls?

Falls led to over 220,000 emergency hospital admissions among adults aged 65+ in England in 2024/25. Explore your balance with a podiatrist, discuss concerns and agree whether further assessment or support would help.

Active and aiming higher?

From running to gym sessions, understand more about your balance and how you load each foot. Discuss your results with a podiatrist in the context of your training goals.

Does one side feel different?

Favouring one leg or noticing changes? Compare left and right side measurements and discuss whether further investigation or referral, including physiotherapy, may be appropriate.

Want to stay independant?

Keep everyday activities in focus. From stairs to walking the dog. Assess your balance and functional capacity, then discuss practical next steps to support the activities that matter to you.

Getting back into exercise?

Unsure where to start after a break? Explore your current movement with a podiatrist and discuss your goals, concerns and whether additional support would be useful.

Just curious?

Get a clearer picture of how you move, with measurements explained by a clinician. Keep your personalised report as a baseline for comparison at future assessments.

Your Movement, Made Clearer

See your results in a personalised report, then explore what they mean with your podiatrist.

Your assessment includes:

• Standing balance on both legs and each leg individually.

• How your weight is distributed between your feet.

• Walking pressure images from the Footscan plate.

• A timed five times sit-to-stand test.

• A discussion of your findings and agreed next steps.

Keeping your report also gives you a baseline for future assessments. Where testing conditions match, a repeat Movement MOT can show how your measurements have changed.

How to read your report

Your measurements show what happened during each test. Movement MOT scores bring selected measurements together on a 0–100 clinic scale, with colour bands to help you follow the results.

Your podiatrist explains the findings alongside your symptoms, activity and goals, helping you understand which areas deserve attention and agree practical next steps.

You’ll leave with a report to keep, share with your healthcare professional and refer back to at a future assessment.

Understand your balance

Explore how you balance on both feet and each leg individually, with clear measurements explained by your podiatrist.

See your movement patterns

Look at left right weight distribution and walking pressure images to better understand how you load your feet.

Stay active with confidence

Discuss your results alongside the activities that matter to you. From everyday walking to exercise and sport.

Track changes over time

Create a baseline to revisit. Repeat assessments under matching conditions can show how your measurements have changed.

Do I need to be sporty?

No. Movement MOT looks at aspects of balance and everyday movement, as well as measurements that may be relevant to your activity goals.

What should I wear?

Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely and stand up from a chair. Bring your usual footwear and any orthotics you use.

What if I cannot complete a test?

Tell your podiatrist before or during the assessment. They will decide whether to adapt or omit the test and explain how this affects your results.

What do the scores mean?

Movement MOT scores summarise selected measurements using Finchley Foot Clinic’s scoring rules. They are a starting point for discussion, rather than an official diagnosis or a prediction of injury or falls.

Can I repeat the assessment?

Yes, we encourage it. Keep your original report and bring it to your follow up. Where the testing conditions and scoring model match, we can compare measurements and discuss any changes.

Will I receive a copy of my report?

Yes. You will receive a hard copy or email version of your personalised report to keep and refer back to.

How is Movement MOT different from Computerised Gait Analysis?

Both use Footscan technology, but they serve different purposes.

Movement MOT is like a health check for how you move. It is a quick, structured assessment of balance, stability and functional capacity, giving you a snapshot and baseline to discuss with your podiatrist.

Computerised Gait Analysis is a more detailed clinical investigation. If you have pain, recurring injuries or a specific movement concern, it combines gait measurements with a clinical assessment to explore what may be contributing and guide treatment, rehabilitation or orthotics where appropriate.

Your podiatrist can help you decide which appointment best suits your concerns and goals.
